Methods of Magic
There are a myriad of different ways to work magic, and this list is by no means all of them. I simply felt it might be helpful to beginners if I gave a brief description of the methods I most commonly employ. Many of them have already got a large article on here anyway, but I felt an easy reference guide might be useful. I intend to add more when I have time.
Talismanic magic
Talismanic magic, often known as enchantment is the practice of attaching a spell to a physical item. There is a detailed explanation of my method of creating talismans on ‘Talismanic Magic’ so I wont repeat myself here.
Drum Magic
I haven’t written about this yet so this description will be more detailed. I believe many native peoples have used this method and I find it quite powerful. The basic Idea is to drum (or use some other musical instrument, I prefer the drum), and chant, thus raising and directing energy towards one’s goal. Drumming is also a good way to raise energy for ritual or spellwork. The chant should state what one wishes to come to pass, for instance the following chant (A SPELL TO CALL RAIN, By Keith Parker) could be used to call rain:
Thirsting plants beckon shower,Man and beast as well as flower.Gentle rain fall earthward bound, soak into the needy ground.
Fire magic
Fire magic includes various methods, the best known of which is candle magic. There is a more detailed description of candle magic on ‘Spellcraft 2’ so I wont go into detail here. Another form of fire magic would be to burn a wish, i.e. one writes what one wishes to occur on a piece of paper, then burns it, so that the wish can be released into the ether. There are many variations of this and I hope to add a page on fire magic as soon as I can.
Paper magic
There is a more detailed description on ‘spellcraft 2’ about paper magic. It can be used to create a sealed charm, which can be kept or burnt.
Colour magic
Colour magic is more often used in conjunction with other magics, the colour of a candle for instance, or the piece of paper. See ‘Colour Magick’
